At St. Junipero Serra, we know how important Religious Education is for children and youth. We know that not everyone has the same faith journey, which is why we offer several programs to accommodate everyone. We offer the following classes:

  • Faith Formation (Grades K–8)

Our Faith Formation program provides a strong foundation in Catholic teachings. Children learn about God’s love, the life of Jesus, the Bible, prayer, and what it means to live as followers of Christ. Lessons are interactive, age-appropriate, and focused on building a relationship with God through Scripture, tradition, and community.

  • Sacramental Preparation (Two-Year Process)

Preparation to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion is a two-year process:

  • Year 1: Children attend regular Faith Formation classes to build their understanding of the faith.
  • Year 2: Children move into our Sacramental Preparation classes, which focus specifically on preparing their hearts and minds to receive the Sacraments.

This approach ensures children are spiritually ready and supported through every step of their sacramental journey.

These classes focus on helping children understand the meaning and importance of each Sacrament, while also deepening their personal relationship with Jesus through prayer, reflection, and family support. They also provide opportunities for children to build community, share their faith, and grow together with their peers on their spiritual journey.

  • Confirmation (Two-Year Process)

The Confirmation program is open to youth starting at 14 years old. Students must be 16 by the time they receive the sacrament of Confirmation. This is more than just a class—it's an opportunity for young people to deepen their faith, build lasting connections, and grow as part of a vibrant Catholic community. Through engaging lessons, prayer, and service, students will gain a deeper understanding of their faith and be equipped to live it out with confidence and love.

  • OCIA for Children

For those who are not baptized (ages 7+ and up), OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) prepares your child to receive the three Catholic Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation. Tailored to suit children, these classes provide a welcoming environment where they can explore the teachings of the Church, learn about sacraments, prayer, and the life of Jesus. Through age-appropriate discussions, interactive activities, and hands-on learning, children discover the beauty of their faith in a way that connects with their curiosity and imagination. OCIA classes help guide them on their spiritual journey, preparing them for the important milestone of receiving sacraments. It’s a nurturing space for faith formation, fostering both a sense of belonging and a deeper relationship with God.
